Latest NewsWeather window for Hospiscare Midnight Walk(May 24, 2011)
More than 800 step out for fabulous Exmouth fundraiser
All eyes were on the skies as more than 800 women stepped out for the annual Exmouth Walk for local charity Hospiscare.
But although dark clouds had threatened a soaking, the rain held off until the seven mile walk on Saturday ( May 21st) was complete.
“We were just so delighted,” said one of the walk organisers Hospiscare’s Jen Waldron. “Everyone looked fantastic in their fancy dress and the atmosphere was superb so the weather window was just what we needed.”
The circular walk started at Exmouth Rugby club where local players treated supporters to a fun warm-up with Heaver Brothers providing a lorry as a stage.
The event was sponsored by estate agents Whitton and Laing and an army of volunteers helped out including marshals who lined the route to keep walkers on track.
Everyone taking part was rewarded with a bacon bap … plus the knowledge that all sponsorship will help local people.
Last year’s walk in Exmouth raised £83,000. All funds are used by Hospiscare to support local patients and their families with a wide range of services including home visits by community nurses and day centre facilities.
Saturday’s event was the second Midnight Walk for Hospiscare this year. Last month more than 800 women joined the first Tiverton challenge, meaning more than 1,600 women in total have taken on the night-time fundraising.
Hospiscare spokeswoman Teresa Driscoll said: “These major events are inspirational. To see local communities responding so generously and with such a spirit of fun is a real boost to everyone at Hospiscare.” Click here to return to the News page |
